Melbourne, March 26. The Bribery and Corruption Committee will close their sittings to-day. The evidence disclosed undoubted attempts to influence votes in 1867 by monetary considerations. Hugh Glass was subjected to two severe examinations, but nothing of importance was elicited. He is to be re-examined this evening. The Committee evidently arrived at foregone ctn lusions. They will bring up a strongly criminating report. There' are no further complications re Jones. His re-election for Ballaarat is considered certain. The Crown prosecutions against selectors for evasion of land regulations have broken down in the main. They are further postponed to next Criminal Sessions. The Mining Board Conference, sitting in Melbourne, have drawn up resolutions to guide Ministers in legislation on mining on private property. Small-pox, isolated cases, is breaking out all over the colony. Two additional deaths have occurred. Vaccination is becoming very general among adults. The jury on A. H. Coy's case, who was charged with malversation of office as Chinese interpreter at Castlemaine, were discharged after being locked up six days. Flanagan, ex-police constable, was convicted of the murder of Sergeant Hull, and is to be executed next Wednesday. All the Roman Catholic prelates in Australia are to meet in Melbourne during Easter, as Synod, on education. Friday, April 2, is proclaimed as a day of humiliation and prayer for the discontinuation of the long drought. ' Commercial.— Flour is quoted at Ll4, but not firm. Wheat is coming forward more freely at 5s 9s to 5s lid. Oats are dull at 4s 3d. There have been large sales of New Zealand oats at a shade below the price quoted. The English mail produced little change. Candles, ll£d. Kerosene has risen to 2s 3d for Downer's. Malt is very dull at 10s. Tobacco is going upwards slightly. Sugars are still advancing.
