THE NATIVE WAR.

(from the West Coast Times.) Wellington, March 22. The news from Tauranga is most important, and likely to prove most disastrous to that district. An attack on the settlement by Kereopa and Hakaraia is imminent, both those bloodthirsty scoundrels having appeared in the vicinity, at the head of large followings. The women and children have been sent away to Auckland. A skirmish took place on Fri lay between Te Kooti and Major Mair ; after which Te Kobti retired. After Te Kooti retired, he was followed by a party of Arawas. v An application has been made for- two companies of the 18th to garrison Tauranga, but Colonel Elliott refused to allow them to stir. The Gazette announces that Mr M'Lean is no longer the Government agent for Hawke's Bay. All Europeans have been warned off the Upper Thames.
