■^ O T I C E . All applications for Ferries across rivars in Westland, to be worked either by boats, punts, or otherwise, must be sent to the oflice of the Chairman of the. Council before the 10th March next, stating the conditions, &c. , and scale of charges proposed to be made. Conditions under which Ferribs may be Leased from tee County Council. 1. When the term of lease is longer than one year, the scale of tolls to be newly adjusted by the Council each year. 2. All approaches from tracks or roads tc the place of ferry, on either side of the stream or lagoon, to be kept by the lessee in thorough repair. 3. The ferry boats to be kept in thorough ■repair, to the satisfaction of the Harboi Master. 4. When machinery or other apparatus k necessary to enable the ferry to be efficiently worked, the plans of such machinery oi apparatus must be deposited with, aird approved by the County Engineer ; and al] such femes must, during the term of such lease, be maintained in thoroughly good order to the satisfaction of the Oountj Engineer. 5. A lamp, containing a bright light, mus be exhibited iv the front of every ferry house from sunset to sunrise. 6. TLe lessee must convey passenger! across the stream or lagoon at any hour wlier called upon to do so ; but double fares maj be charged between the hours of ten o'clock p.m. and six o'clock a. m., except in case oj floods, or at times when the sti'eam or lagoon is otherwise dangerous to cross. 7. The lessee to be sworn in, and act as a constable. 8. The lessee shall afford every assistance in his power in directing strangers to a safe fording across the river. 9. Copies of the authorised scale of tolls tc be painted in large letters on two boards j one of which shall be exhibited in a prominent place on either side of the stream oi lagoon. 10.
