Intelligence has been received from the Thames of more melancholy and fatal accidents — deaths by drowning— which occurred near Shortland, on Saturday. Mr Edward Davy, a surveyor, formerly residing in Auckland, and the son of an old Tart • naki settler, whilst bathing was seized with cramp, aud, before assistance came, wrs drowned. — A well-known character at Kennedy's Bay and Shortland, named Ryan, met his death by drowning a few days ago at the former place. Ryan was, it appears, the occupant of a boat, which from some cause filled and went down, leaving the unfortunate fellow struggling iv the water, and before assistance could reach him he had sunk to rise no more. The deceased was at the Thames some months before leaving for Kenj nedy's Bay, during the rush to that locality. A shoemaker in America bought some shoe-pegs made of rotten wood. Not being able to use them, he took his knife and sharpened the other end of them and sold them for oats.
