The steamer Beautiful Star, now under oommand of Captain Hepburn, formerly of the steamer Win. Miskin, left Dunedin at 7 p.m. on Friday, the 22nd ult., arrived at Lyttelton at 7 p.ni. ou Saturday ; and remained there until Monday evening. She •ailed at 6 p.m. for Wellington, and arrived at Wellington at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, having encountered head winds and a heavy tea. On the arrival of the Ruahine at 'Wellington, with the Panama mails, the Star was chartered by the Government to carry the North Island and West Coast mails, and was detained until midnight. Arrived at Nelson at half -past three next afternoon, after a rough passage through the Straits. Was detained there by a heavy south-easterly gale until Sunday morning, the same gale detaining the Phoebe and and Wanganui for three days at Wellington. Arrived at Wanganui on Monday morning, and sailed on Tuesday at 3 o'clock. She arrived at Westport at 3 a.m. on Thursday, )eft agaiu at 6 p.m. on Friday, anchored off the Grey bar at half-past one on Saturday morning, and crossed on the morning tide. She was to have, sailed the same afternoon, bat was detained until yesterday evening, as the supply of coal whs short. The favorite p.s. Bruce, Captain Christian, arrived in the river early on Sunday morning. She left Dunedin on Monday, the 25th ult., and experienced strong head windß to Lyttelton, where she arrived on Weduesday mdrning at daylight. Here she lay two days, and sailed for Wellington on Thursday at 10 p.m. Experienced neavy S.W. weather, and . took shelter under Cape Campbell, where she remained for two days, a gale of wind blowing all the tune. Left again on Saturday night, and arrived in Wellington Harbor at midnight on Sunday. Left Wellington on Monday evening, at 8 o'clock, and arrived at Nelson next morning at 11 o'clock, which she left on Wednesday evening, but in consequence of heavy weather had to put into Totaranui. for shelter. Here ■he remained for thirty bours, and arrived at Westport and entered the nvsr at 4 a.m. on Saturday. Left on Saturday afternoon, called in at Brighton, and arrived here as above. Since she left the coast the Bruce has been thoroughly overhauled in Dunedin, and has changed owners— being now the property of Messrs Harper and Houghton. She will do a few trips on the coast, but she is intended for the Auckland trade, where she will shortly proceed. The p.s. Charles Edward, Captain Palmer, I arrived from Nelson and Westport on Thursday_at 4.30 p.m., and experienced strong 8. W. winds on the run round to Westport, where she arrived at midnight on Friday. Left the same afternoon, aud arrived off this bar on Saturday at daylight, and came in on the tide. She left for Hokitika early yesterday morning. The schooner Ann, for Charleston, was towed out on Sunday by the p.s. Dispatch. The p s. Yarra made a run up from Hokitika.on Sunday, with a party of excursionists, and returned in- the evening. The 8.8. Gothenburg was expected to leave
Nelson last evening for this port. She may consequently be lotkad for here in time to be tendered ok this evening's' tide. She will: take pißsengers for Melbourne direct. The s.B. Murray, Captain Holmes, arrived last night from Nelson via Westport and Hokitika. She left Nelson on Thursday night, was in the Buller on Friday evening/ sailed again on Saturday afternoon, and crossed the Hokitika bar on Sunday morningi She left thai port at 6 p. in. yesterday, but stuck on the bar, which is reported to be very bad, for about twenty iniuutes, when she succeeded in. getting out, and arrived here as above. The brig Cerea, from Melbourne, anchored in the roadstead yesterday, and was taken in tow in the evening by the p.s. Dispatch. Although she was drawing close on ten feet of water, she crossed the bar easily without touching, but gronnded on the flat in the river, near the mouth of the south lagoon. She will be lightered this morning, and afterwards Irought to the wharf.
