PAROA ROAD BOARD.
The usual weekly meeting of this Board was held on Thursday last at the office, Paroa. Present — Messrs Stansell (in the •hair), O'Connor, Hamilton, and Colton. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Hamilton moved — "That the application of Mahor and party to mine on 2£ chains of road reserve at Teremakau be granted, subject to such conditions aa our engineer may deem necessary." Mr O'Connor seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr Stansbll moved — " That the applioation of Mr Kilgour for the use of the front room next the Bridge Hotel be granted at the rate of 8s per week, payable in advance." The motion was seconded by Mr ColTon, and carried. The Treasurer reported the balance in hand to be £3 9s 6d. Mr Stansell moved— "That a permanent finance committee be appointed, consisting of Messrs Hamilton, Howison, O'Connor, and the mover." Mr Hamilton seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr Stansell moved— "That the Secretary be instructed to write to the Chairmen of the various Road Boards enclosing copy of resolutions stating the willingness of this Board to send a delegate to Hokitika for the purpose of holding a conference with delegates from the other Boards to take into consideration the action of the present County Council." Mr Colton seconded the resolution, which was carried. Mr Stansell moved—" That it be referred to a committee, consisting of Messrs O'Connor, Colton, and the mover, to draw up designs and purchase a seal for the Board by next meeting, if possible." Mr Hamilton seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr Stansell moved — " That the Board do levy a general rate, and for the purpose of ascertaining the rateable value of property within the district, do call for tenders for two valuators — tenders to be sent in to the Road Board Office before 4 o'clock p.m. on the 10th inst." Mr O'Connor seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr O'Connor moved — " That the engineer be instructed to call for tenders on deferred payments (say four months) for constructing a road from Paroa to the beach, according to line AA now before the Board." Mr Stansell seconded the motion pro forma. An amendment was moved by Mr Stansell — " That the matter be referred to a committee consisting of Messrs Colton, Hamilton, Howison, and O'Connor." Mr Hamilton seconded the amendment, which was carried. There was no other business of importance, and the Board adjourned until Wednesday, the 10th instant, at the usual hour. ■• .. .• _^
