PAROA ROAD BOARD,
i A meeting of the Paroa Road Board took place on Wednesday evening at halfpast s.uven, at the office of the Board, at Paroa. There were present — Messrs Stansell, (Chairman), Hamilton,.. O'Connor, Murdoch, and Colton. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Letters were read from Mr Burgess, requesting payment of his account. From Messrs Smith and Co., also requesting payment of the balance of their account, for making the Arnold road. Also from Mr Bonar, calling the attention of the Board to the necessity of forming a road for foot passengers from the junction of the Teremakau to the township at the Greenstone. Also, a letter from Myer and Co., requesting permission to mine on a Government road. A telegram was also read from Mr Hurst, stating his inability to be present at the meeting that evening. Received. Moved by Mr Stansbli, and seconded by Mr O'Connor— " That Mr Hurst's appointment be cancelled, in consequence of his not being present that evening, and that the consideration of appointing another secretary and engineer be considered at the end of the meeting." Carried. Moved by Mr Stansell, and seconded by Mr Murdoch — " That the Board not having sufficient funds at their disposal, cannot liquidate the debt of Mr Burgess at present." Carried. Moved by Mr Hamilton, and seconded by Mr Murdoch — "That the Chairman put all correspondence before the meeting for discussion before moving any resolution." Carried. Moved by Mr Murdoch, and seconded by Mr O'Connor— " That the claim of John Smith and Co. be settled as soon as there are monies in the hands of the Road Board." Carried. The consideration of Myer and Co's letter was postponed till next meeting, in consequence of the absence of the engineer. In reference to the letter from Mr Bonar, respecting a foot road from the Junction to the Greenstone, Mr O'Connor moved, and Mr Stansell seconded — " That the Board incur no further liability till the old debts are paid." Carried. Moved by Mr Hamilton, and seconded by Mr Murdoch — "That the secretary be instructed to write to Mr Bonar, and to state the inability of the Board to make any roads or tracks for want of funds." Carried. Mr Clarke's account of LI ss, for rent for house was passed on the motion of Mr Stansell, and seconded by Mr Colton. The sub-committee reported having purchased the Boatman's Arms, Paroa, from Mr E. Clarke, for ths sum of L 65, to be paid in two instalments of L4O and L 25 respectively. Moved by Mr Hamilton, and seconded by Mr Stansell — "That the report of the sub-committee be adopted." Carried. Moved by Mr Hamilton, and seconded by Mr Murdoch — " That to prevent the power of the Road Board and the Warden of the district clashing, that the Secretary be instructed to write to the Warden requesting him to furnish the Board with all applications for roads and tracks, &c, at least seven days before granting the same, and that this Board will furnish him with the same information until their respective powers are defined." Carried. Moved by Mr Stansell, and seconded by Mr Murdoch — " That the Secretary be instructed to fill up the Government printed forms as far as possible, and leave the others blank." Carried. Moved by Mr Stansell, and seconded by Mr Hamilton — " That the Secretary be instructed to write to the Fire Brigade, thanking them for the use of their hall." Carried. The Board then went into Committee to consider the appointment of a Secretary and Engineer, when Messrs Tyler and Barnes were conjointly appointed. The Board then adjourned at a quarter to ten o'clock till Monday next, at seven p.m.
