An Irish girl, happening to hear her mother speaking of going into half-mourning said : — "Why are we going into half -mourning, mamma ? Are any of our relations halfdead?" The Brisbane Courier's Taroom telegraph states that the skeleton of a shepherd, who is supposed to have been lost from Guambaguil head station over twelve months ago, has been found in a watcrhole. From the appearance of the skull it would seem as though the poor fellow had suffered from foul play. The authorities are making inquiries into the matter. A celebrated French preacher, in a sermon upon the duty of wives, said, " I see in this congregation a woman who has been guilty of disobedience to her husband, and in order to uoint her out I will fling my breviary at her head. " He lifted his book, and every female head instantly ducked. •
