COMMERCIAL,

UititY River Argus Offioe, Friday evening. The amount of revenue received at the Custom House on goods passed for home consumption, o» Thursday and Friday, December 10 and 11, was £644 7s 1 Id. The items were as follows : —

Melbourne,—The Argus of the 26th reports : — In the import markets to-day, we note a considerable activity in produce, as well as in one or two articles specially affected by mail advices. In breadstuff's, in addition to tho demand for flour for trade purposes, purchases continue to be made on Syclney account, over 500 tons of flour and wheat having been taken up for shipment to that market. Flour has found buyers at Ll3 10s net to Ll4, and some 40n0 bushels of Adelaide wheat have been placed at 5s lOd in bond. About 5000 to 6000 bushels of Califomian wheat have been quitted for local use at very full rates. Oats are firm at 3s 2d for New Zealand, and sales of maize are reported at from 4s 4£d to 4a 6d. There has been a considerable run on candles, of which some 4000 boxes at least must have changed hands, in parcels ranging from 500 to 1000 boxes in a line, at from lid for outside brands to lljd to 11 for Brandon's and De Roubaix and Jenar's, and the market closes very steadily, with no sellers of the last-named brand under ll|d. The Neva Company have notified this evening having raised the price of their brand to ll|d. A late telegram from England, dated 27th October, advising candles as having risen in the home markets to lOd, has, we understand, led to this activity. Under the hammer, the cargo of Bourbon sugars, ex Qnestembert, was offered this forenoon, and the auctioneer succeeded in disposing of 9000 bass at an improvement of 20s to 30s on the late sales of similar qualities. Low rations were quitted at 21 s 6d, middling brought 25s 9d to 26s 3d, browns realised 29s 3d to 30s, middling grainy yellows sold at 32s 6d to 33s 6d, while middling white crystals were quitted at 36s 6d. In teas, few sales are reported. Our latest dates from Foo.chow to 10th October, report the only departures for Melbourne as the Chowfa, 14th September (arrived), and the Blue Jacke and Sidonie on the 21st and 2Sth September. Four vessels had sailed for Sydney, one for Adelaide, and r.ne f r Fremnntle Three vessels were loading for the colonies, of which only one was named for Melbourne. The season was expected to close very early at Foo-ehow-foo, and was reported as already over at Amoy. Currants are firmer ; holders now ask 4d. Malt is moved off at Us 3d. We have not heard of any large sales. A parcel of hoop iron was quitted at Ll2 10. A line of thirty-five pockets of 1567 hops, a mixed shipment, was disposed of at various prices, according to quality. Sales of ten per cent o.p. rum have been made at 4s. From a private communication, dated Loudon, 30th September, we learn that "rums are exceedingly scarce. Demeraras have advanced 3d* to 4d per gallon, and will be dearer. Stocks are exceedingly small." And, on 9th October, the same firm writes : — "We can fully confirm our last market reports, especially as regards rum, which, if anything, is firmer, and we see no prospect for the present of any reduction in price." Accounts of the vintage are not so favorable.
