ONE THOUSAND POUNDS FOR TITO KOWARU.

BI'SHRANGING VOLUNTEERS. A meeting was held at the Freemasons' Hall, Wanganui, on Saturday evening last, to consider the advisability of forming one or more parties of Volunteers to act as a guerilla force against the enemy, and for the protection of the outlying districts. Colonel Haultain agreed to all the suggestions that had been made as to the terms upon which the men would take service. They are as follows ; — 1. The B. Va. will be enrolled under the Volunteer Regulations of New Zealand, but for three months only. The services of the corps may, however, be dispensed with at any time if the Colonel commanding finds that they are not doing their duty. The B. Vs. will, in addition to regular Militia pay, receive Is. per diem extra while serving. 2. The B. Vs. will be under the orders of Colonel Whitmore, and their duties will be to act as scouts, to harass the enemy, cutting off stragglers, destroying provisions and crops, and generally obtaining information of the whereabouts of the enemy, and keeping the front of the Field Force clear of the enemy's scouts, foraging-parties, and spies. 3. Each man will be armed with a breech-loader and revolver. 4. A premium will be given by the Government of £5 for every man or lad belonging to the enemy brought in alive by the B. Vs., whether such prisoner be wounded or not. A special reward of is offered for the person of Titokowaru. 5. The corps may be divided into parties of not less than twenty men each ; and one officer, and the usual proportion of N. C. officers, will be allowed for every such party. 6. By the Regulations, Volunteers or their families are entitled to the benefits of the " Military Pensions Act." (Signed) T. M, Haultain, November 33, 1868.
