For fine wools, an improved demand is shewn. Several earthquakes have taken place in San Francisco. The City Hall and several other buildings were destroyed. The Richard, for Wellington, was run down. All hands saved. October 30. The Jesuits have been suppressed in Spain. Admiral Topete has declared in favor of a monarchy. The Democrats prefer a republic. Cuba has recognised the revolutionists. Complete civil and religious freedom has been proclaimed. The convicts and monasteries established since 1837 have been abolished. The others have been reduced one-half, and prohibited from receiving noviciates. It is expected that the throne will be offered to the King of Portugal. Queen Isabella is likely to go to Brighton. Holland and Italy have recognised the new Government. The American Repnblicans have carried Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania by large majorities. General Grant's election is considered certain. The prospectus of a Spanish loan of 52,000,000 reals has been issued. A diplomatic memorial has been published, which states that 30,000 French soldiers have been furloughed. General Meredith Douglas is dead. A painful feeling has been evinced at the fresh Maori outbreak. Hopes are entertained of prompt and vigorous retaliatior.
