Per Jane Elkin, for Hokitika : 40 tors coal, 1 ton lime, order.
The lusjpeas of t£e port, which had betn wspended in' consequence oT tbe bad weather which prevailed during the early part of the week, was resumed in earnest yesterday morning. The first to cross tbe bar was the ! p.B. Persevere, for Hokitika, with a cargo of .*S: Skf* 88 followed by the p.s. Dispatch with the lo m tow. The s.s. Kennedy, from J«elson and Westport, arrived about this lime, and crossed inwards, followed shortly afterwards by the Dispatch with the brig >lagnet, from Melbourne, j n tow. The channel was"fo»nd po be in' splendid condition, perfectly straight out, with over twelve feet of water some time before full ti«e. The best evidence of this is that the Magnet was drawing 10 feet 6 inches, and abe crossed without touching. Tbe ps. ihspatcli afterwards towed the brig Clarendon to sea, and returned to port. The brig Magnet, for Melbourne, Captain Clmakill was towed to the wharf yesterday forenoon by the p.s. Dispatch. She'has made another fine run, having cleared Port Philip Heads on Monday, the ?3rd njt.' and made UTu KS 16 c ? aßt ' wbich was raad e on the following Monday. Since then she has been knocking about in the heavy gales and high seas which visited the coast daring the week, until she was towed in as above. She brings a Jarge cargo, and is consigned to her owners, Messrs Kennedy Brothers. ' The s.s. Gothenburg, from Melbourne, was telegraphed as having arrived at Dunedin on ..Thursday. She will, no doubt, make a good ran round the other ports, and is announced to leave this roadstead for Melbourne direct, <>n the 10th mat. Cheap return tickets, «XMnduig ovei a month, will be issued by this vessel, in order to enable passengers to spend their Christmas holidays in Melbourne. The s.B. Tararua, from Melbourne, arrived at Dunedin yesterday. § The b.B. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell, arrived in tbe river yesterday morning, from Wwitport and Nejson. She left the latter port 'at 9 a\rn. on; Saturday, but met with very severe weather through the Straits, and en Sunday lay under shelter of Farewell Spit. She arrived at Westport on Monday night, at 10 o'clock, and, in consequence of the severe weather which prevailed on the coast, was detained in port for several days. She got to sea ayain on Thursday night, and arrived here as above. • ' Sfie< brings a large cargo, a portion of which is transhipped ex Btautifn^Star^from Dunedin and Lyttelton.
