Dear Sir — We, the undersigned Electors of the Borough of Greymouth, respectfully request that you will yet allow yourself to l»e placed in Nomination as a Candidate to represent us in the County Council. From our past experience of your political career, we believe that iv again entrusting our interests to your care you will watch over them with the same earnestness you have done hitherto. We should have taken the opportunity of presenting you with this requisition at a much earlier period, but we considered it unnecessary, believing you would again be a Candidate for our suffrages. Gentlemen— Your requision has placed me in an awkward position — but still one of .. which I must and do feel proud. When I' announced my intention of withdrawing from the approaching contest, I felt that I was to some extent guilty of deserting you at a time when of all others you needed the services of those who had already given you an earnest of the sincerity of their endeavors to promote your interests and those of the County generally. That misgiving has been strengthened by the influential requisition you have presented rae, and I cannot now any longer hesitate to offer you the continuance of my services. lam glad to think that my past political conduct has been so satisfactory to you as to call for the confidence which you have done me the honor to express. I can only say further that should I again be returned as one of your members in the County Council you shall not have cause to recal the trust you have reposed in me.
