OPENING OF THE COUNTY COUNCIL. ("from our own correspondent. ) Hokitika, Wednesday. The County Council was opened to-day at noon by Mr Bonar, the County Chairman. There were present -rr Messrs Hoos, Barff, Harrison, Keary, and Shaw. The Chairman explained the main features of the new County of Westland Act, congratulated the Cpuncil on its enlarged powers., and on the legislation affecting Westland earned in the Assembly during jts, last session. He spoke hopefully of the financial condition of the County, the receipts of revenue for the last quarter having been L 37,780, as against L 38,025 as estimated. The expenditure duping the same period was within 1(59 of the sum estimated. He recommended the Council to proceed only with such business as was negessary to bring the Act into operation, , The standing orders will be suspended to-morrow, and the Council will most probably be dissolved the same day,
