RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Tuesday, November 10. (Before W. H. Revell, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. — Elizabeth Harrison, charged with having been drunk and iu-' capable, was fined LI or 48 hours' imprisonment. Breauh of the Peace. — Alexander Constantine was charged with a breach of the peace, by lighting o.ri Mawhera Quay on the sth inst. Constable Managau saw a crowd on Ihe street, and on proceeding to the spot saw the defendant and another 1 man arguing. Their faces bore marks of fighting. Another witness proved that defendant and a man named Mitchell were in the Commercial Hotel, and when they went out they had a fight on the' street. The defendant stated that he had discharged Mitchell, and when he met him in the Commercial Hotel he said he would not leave the town till he had given the defendant a good hammering. He struck defendant first, and they both fell. There was a similar charge against Alexander Mitchell, but he did not appear, and was fined L 2 and costs. Constantine was fined 10s and costs. CIVIL CASES. Anne Brown v. Kate Murray. — Claim of 8s sd, the value of crockery smashed by the defendant when she forced an entrance into plaintiff's house. Judgment by default, with costs. Shepherd and Dixon v. Charles Meehan. — This was a claim of LlB 14s for sawn timber supplied at the New River. Mr Perkins appeared for the defendant, and elicited the fact that the plaintiffs had received L 2 30s on account, and were also indebted in further sums. An adjournment was asked for, but refused, as the defendant had his remedy. Judgment for Ll6 4s and costs. Prosser v. Boden.— Claim of L 7 9s. , Judgment by consent. '
