LATEST TELEGRAMS.

(from thb christchurch papers.) Wellington, November 3. Mr Richmond has returned from the East Coast. The 214 recruits from Auckland, under the command of Major St. John, were inspected by Colonel Haultain on landing this morning. They appear to be promising fellows. On Sunday morning news arrived at Wanganui that Titokawaru had reached within seven miles of Weraroa redoubt. The Wanganui cavalry rodeoff immediately to reinforce Weraroa, and • the first-class militia marched to Kai Iwi the same evening. The house of a settler named Drury, on the north bank of the Waitotara, was attacked on Saturday night. The inmates had a narrow escape. Titokowaru's force is in three divisions. Immediately this alarming news reached Wellington, the steamer Wanganui was directed to get under weigh, for the conyeyance of the Auckland recruits with all speed. November 4. At the Appeal Court judgments have been delivered in the following cases : — Rhodes V.Roberts: Judgment of the Court below confirmed, with costs. Crawford v. LeCren : Judgment for plaintiff, with costs. Dunedin Waterworks Company v. Bassett : Judgment of the Court below reversed, with costs. The Court has adjourned to Monday. November 5. Colonel Whitmore left Patea on Monday, with 150 Europeans and 200 natives, and encampad near Wereroa the same night. Titokowaru's party had in the meantime bailed up two settlers named Richardson and Rees in a house near Drury's, but they escaped by the assistance of a Maori woman. Some French fire annihilators were tried on a burning shed last night. They seem to be more adapted for use in confined spaces. Those manufactured in Otago are said to be much superior. - At a private meeting yesterday, it was resolved to endeavour to wind up the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company.
