The s.s. Otago is expected early from Wellington, bringing the Westland portion of the Panama mail. She is announced to leave for Melbourne direct to-morrow. The p. 8. Waipara, from Westport, made but a short stay in port yesterday. She only landed a few passeDgers, and then steamed away for Hokitika. The s.B. Omeo returned to this port from Hokitika on Thursday, after being detained in that roadstead for several days. Immediately on her arrival here, she was waited on by the p.s. Persevere, .and shipped here eleven passengers and nearly 2000ozs. of gold for Melbourne ; but it was found that the inward passengers for this port hail been landed at Hokitika. She left the same afternoon for Melbourne. The Panama Company's s.s. Rangitoto. arrived in the roadstead yesterday afternoon, and as the p.s. Dispatch was out waiting for her, the passengers and pargo were transhipped and the Rangitoto promptly dispatched for Nelson. She has madp a splendid run, having left Melbourne on the 17th at 30 30 p.m , passed through the Heads at 6 30, was abreast the Schauck at 8 p.m., was abreast Swan Island at 4 p.m., sighted Mount Oook at 2 p.m. on the 22n1, and came to off Hokitika at 9 a.m. on the 23rcl. She was tendered by the p. s. Yarra at 2 p.m., into M'hich passengers, mail, and cargo were transhipped, and left Hokitika roadstead at 3p. m. , arriving at the Grey at 4- 30 p.m. During the passage the Rangitoto encountered fine weather, with winds varying from S.W. to S.E. On nearing the land she met with calm weather with a heavy swell fiom the S.W. ' The a. s. Auckland, Captain Harris, from Sydney, arrived in tho roadstead on Thursday afternoon, too late for the tide, and yesterday at mid-day was waited on by the p.s. Dispatch, and her passengers landed. The purser's report states that the Auckland left Sydney on the 15th inst, at 6 p.m., and experienced strong weather throughout, wind varyiDg from S. W. to SS. E. A rrived off Hokitika at noon on the 20th, but the iw-eatber being so thick could see nothing, and heavy sea running, went to sea again. Brought up jn the roadstead at 9 a.m. on the 21st, and on the 22nd, at noon, landed cargo and passengers. At 3 p.m left for the Grey, and at 5.30 brought up off Greymouth, and at noon yesterday l»nded cargo and passengers and proceeded to Nelson. The b.s. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell, arrived in the river last night from Nelson yia Weatport and Hokitika. She loft Nelson on the 15th at 6 pirn.,' called at Motueka to ship cargo. Left the following day, and in ponsequence of tiie heavy weather had to take shelter in Mutton Bay and Totaranui, and had then to run back to Nelson for coal. Left again on Sunday last at 11.30 a.m., and arrived at West Wangnnui at 11 a.m. the following day, took on board the Nelson's shipwrecked- passengers, left the following midnight, and arrived at Westport on Tuesday at 1 o.m. She left again the following /Jay, am] ran on to Hokitika, from whence she arrived here as above.
