(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Westport, Wednesday. The p.s. Nelson has arrived, bringing news that the rush to Mercury Bay, Auckland, is a complete sell, there not being the slightest trace of gold. The diggers seized the prospectors, held a mock trial, and shaved their heads. They then took forcible possession of the steamers which were lying in the bay, and all returned to Auckland.
(From the West Coast Times.) Wellington, Tuesday. The debate on Mr M 'Lean's motion was concluded on Friday night. An amendment was carried by the casting vote of the Speaker. The Opposition proposed another amendment, which was lost by one vote. It is doubtful if the Ministry Will resign. Dissolution is probable. The new County of Westland Bill was read a second time. The Goldfields Drainage Bill was read a second time. , The Upper House threw out the clause in the Westland Land Act providing for mining on private property. The Westland members intend to propose a conference between both Houses. Great uneasiness is felt at the nonarrival of the Panama boat.
