Tararua, from Melbourne, arrived at the Bluff/ on Sunday . She will make a tour of the ports this trip, and will be finally despatched from this port for Melbourne pn or about Saturday next. The two Quo coasting steamers Nelson and Kennedy, belonging to N. Edwards and Co., arrived ' iv pprt on Sunday morning. The former is from Kelson via Westport, and has made a tine run, having left Nelson on Friday last and Westpprt on Saturday evening. The Kennedy is also from Nelson via Westpqrt, but went <>n to Hokitika, where she was detained. At Westport she shipped 4000ozs of gold for Hokitika Both steamers brought large cargoes and a considerable number of passengers for this port. The p.s. Persevere has been detained at Hokitika during the last few days, owing to the Btat« of that' bar and the heavy aeaß fanning outside. The Hokitika bar is reported to be in a very bad condition. The West Coast Timts of yesterday says : — The bar is now situated nearly one-third of a mile north of the turn round the end of the North Spit into the fiver, and inconsequence a long and dangerous reach — open to a b padside sea — has to be traversed ere the port or roadstead can be gained. Add $o this a very sh/illow bar, and seamen familiar with the port may form some idea of its blocks' >ed condition. A moderate flood, however, \i all that is needed to put the place to rights again.
