The newly created Cardinal Bonaparte is in his fortieth year, and is the eldest surviving child of the late Prince Charles Bonaparte, President of the Republican Assembly under the Triumvirate, and of hi 3 wife Zenaide Boneparte, only child of Joseph, titular King of Naples, and then of Spain, by the sister of the wife of Ber r nedotto— Mdlle. Clary of Marseilles. Cardinal Bonaparte is, therefore, doubly a Bonaparte, and represents, strangely enough, through his mother, the house of Bonaparte, as Joseph was the eldest of the brothers. He is also a near blood relation of the present Royal family of Sweden.
