NELSON CREEK.

(rjiOM A CORRESPONDENT.) -May T, 1868. In following up -my remarks aboutfthia place, it is very pleasing to note that mining matters are generally in a v«ry prosperous condition, very many of the late arrivals here having walked into same* thing very satisfactory. Travelling eastward from the township, we come upon several parties at work in block claims, which have been drained of the water by the tail-races which have been cut to work extended chums. First among the latter is the one belonging to Burns and party, who have, I understand, nearly worked out, after very profitable labor. Next comes that of Davies and party, who, after, four months' labor in, cutting their tunnel a distance of 250 yards, have lately been rewarded by finding gold in payable quantities. Leaving them we come to that of Collins and party who, although in with their tail-race, a distance of 800-fetit, have not as yet comQ upon any gold thai they consider will pay, but are in hopes of getting better when they get farther in. This claim abuta on the foot of Dry Gully, which has long since been abandoned as worked out. On my way back from here I was rather I surprised to find along strip of untouched ; ground running parallel to and south of the extended claims. Having seen that the whole fla.t about the town is being worked, I have no donbt but that thia will in time be all turned over* Two men were, conveyed from here thia week seriously injured by falling down shafts, during the night. In both cases' 1 an appeal for assistance wan made on thei? behalf, and in less than two hours Lls was collected for one, while the other got Ljs, One was carried down to the Grey River by the miners, the other being able, | to ride a horse which was placed at hi* service by one of the business men. Whiles upon the subject of collections, bearing in mind your remarks lately made in reference to the Grey River Hospital,- 1 would suggest that the Hospital Committee; should see their way so that a house to. house collection should he made, in aid of that valuable institution in this place. Certain am I that auch a call would bet responded to very liberally.
