Dunkdin. — The Daily Times of the 27th ult, reports : — A stuady trade for current wants has been doing, but the week commenced, and ended without animation, ami iv the transactions of import houses little of moment has been heard of. Home advices have had scarcely any elFect upon the markets, which close with little variation in values, and which retain a fair degree of firmness. In breadstuffs, the trade done has been moderate. Stocks have been augmented by the arrival of shipments of Canterbury wheats and South American flours. The latest advices frprn the Australian markets are favorable to tho continuance of high prices for wheat, but are not sufficiently so to allow of any improvement in oata, which remain dull. Quotations are, town made n\,ur, at the mills, Ll9 10s ; Chilian, L2l 10s to L 2 2; wheats, 7s 9d to 8s; barley, 4s, good samples saleable j oals, 2s Sd to 2s 9d, the outside rate obtainable for small lots ; potatoes, L 6 10s for imported Canterbury or Auckland. Liquid* have been quiet. Small sales of brandies (Hennes.*y's and C.V.P. ) Lave been made at 8s and 7s 0)1, respectively : and some parcels of new brew ales are reported as quitted, but prices obtained withheld. Sugars have considerable fjiiuness. Yellow crystals are in request, and held for high rates. Teas, also, are slowly improving; and the frequent small sales made lately evidence more remunerative p icps. Provisions are in sufficient supply for the present demand. Good buter commands Is ; Colonial cheese, 8d ; and good parcel of hams realised Is 4d. Coey's and Sinclair's bacon is not quoted at over 10£dto lid, Candles and kerosene as yet without improvement, and building materials very (juiet, first houses scarcely effecting any transactions.
