She sailed again on Monday night, and arrived here as above, leaving for Hokitika the same evening. The cutter Flora Macdonald left Manukau Heads, on the 25th April, with wind N.W., and which only continued till four o'clock next morning, when it came on to blow from S.W., increasing to a gale which continued for six days and until off Totaranui. Ran in there on Friday, and left again on Sunday, arriving off the Grey Bar yesterday morning, when she was towed in on the tide by the p.s. Persevere. The Flora brings a cargo of timber and produce, and we are in? debted to Captain Wilson for files of Auckland papers to tbe 24th nit The schooner Maid of Erin, from Melbonrne, was towed over the Buller bar tin Monday morning by the p.s. Lioness, which awo towed to sea the barque Nightingale on Saturday last. The p.s. Bruce left Hokitika at 4 p.m. on Saturday last, and arrived at the Buller at 11 o'clock the same night, She lay there all Sunday, and on Monday went on to Mokihinui, at which place shfi arrived at noon. Wallaby, whose services have been so constant and so well known since the commencement of the West Coast gold fields trade, has changed hands, Messrs Edwards and Co hati'mr sold her to Mr I. Freeth for the sum of L 4500.— Nelson Colony, The master of the steamer Lady Bird reports tJ-at when on his way to Timaru, about 3 o'clock on Saturday morning, he was deceived and delayed for nearly three hours, by the appearance of a bright fixed liiht at an elevation of 30 or 40 feet above the sea level, exhibited on the beach about 12 or 14 miles north of Timaru, which Jigbt was at Hreb taken by him for the Timaru harbor light. Captain Lusher is unable to account f"r the appearance of the lie-lit, and suggests that it must have been placed there by some person for the purpose of deceiving vessels, and drawing tbepi on shore. To say the least the appearance of such a light, in the place named, is very suspicious, us there is no habitation near. It has been pointed out that the Maoris might have been employed at the time iv fishing with a Wyht, or that the grass in the neighbourhood might have been on tire ; but as Captain Lusher went in near shore and was hove to for some hours, he would not be deceived by such lights. On his next trip the captain wi'l take the same course, and should the light again be shown be has intimated that Jic will send a shot or two on shore, and thus find out for what purpose it is shown. — Tiyiary, Herald %
