The Brazilians made several attempts to cut off the communications of General 'Lopez through the forest of Gr;iu Clmco-, but failed, and in engagements which took place Lopez gained fresh advantages ever the allied forces. General Alexander, Minister of the United States at Buenos Ayres, died after a protracted illness.
