AMERICA.
The trial of Andrew Johnson, President, takes place on the 13th March. Secretary Stanton is in possession of the War Department. Senator Wade is President, pro tern-pore. The New Hampshire elections were carried by the Republicans. The United States National debt is 2,519,829,622 dollars. Thaddeus Stevens is seriously ill. President Johnston will not resign, ami has retained D. D. Field, New York, and B. R. Curtis, Massachusetts, as counsel. At the trial, the President will object to republican Senators who have expressed opinions as to his conduct being jurors. He will also object that Senators from 27 States only do not constitute the Senate of the United States, and till ten Southern States have representatives in the House and Senate, the latter cannot take up so vital a question as impeaching the highest officer of the Government. This failing he will refuse to go on with the trial, tender his resignation, and appeal to the people to sustain him, and pass judgment against the Senate at the ballot box, Many Senators believe that the articles of impeachment against the President offer no ground for a conviction. Jeff, Davis' trial is postponed indefinitely on account of the impeachment proceedings. Julia Dean Cooper, a well known New York actress, is dead. Three-fourths of Jefferson, a town in Texas, were destroyed by tire on the 3rd March. Sixty business houses and 15,000 bales of cotton were destroyed.
