THE FERRY AT THE LITTLE GREY JUNCTION.

(To the Editor of the Grey River Argus.) Sir — Would you kindly spar§ space in your columns for the following few lines, the purpose of which is to call tho attention of the •Government and public to the necessity of having a ferry boat stationed on this crossing of the main Gray. I understand that Mr or Madam Black has got a grant of a free license in consequence of keeping a passenger boat on the ferry. On last Sunday evening, the 19th, there was some poor fellow, cooeying on the opposite shore ; the rain was falling in torrents ; there was a small fresh in the river ; and when the attention'of Madame was called to the fact, she replied that "they might stop over there till they'd rot." 1 am not sure whether she had swallowed her usual allowance of strong waters, but that was the mildest part of her answer. At length the cooeying wqs heard no more ; but this morning a man's swag was picked up in mid stream, and we heard the mournful howling of a dog opposite to where the swag has been found. There are all the appurtenances in the bundle necessary for a digger, There are blue blankets, gold scales, oilskin coat, a pair of moleskins, a driving pick, and sundry other little articlea, but no papers or anything that any person here can identify as belonging to any one we {now. We sincerely hope that the heartltss carelessness of Mr and Madame may not have been the cause of grief to some unfortunate digger. And now there is no boat on the ferry, nor likely to be until it pleases the boatmen to make the return trip with her from Greymouth, where they are at present. By inserting this in your paper, if it has the effect of rectifying this public grievance your correspondent will feel truly grateful. I am, &c, A Resident at the Junction. P.S. — Since writing the foregoing the swag has been brought over to this side, and immediately after the dog following ; he is rather a large dog, buli and mastiff 1 breed, black and tan.
