Mining affairs in the Lake district in Otago seem to be in a satisfactory state; We clip the following from the Wakatip Mail :— " Mining affairs at the Arrow are. improving. A new impetus was started in Scanlan's Gnlly, where some parties are doing very well, and there seems to be plenty of ground. A new company has started to lay down a tramway in a terrace here at a very high level ; they purpose penetrating the terrace about 400 yards. Expectation very sanguine. Hyani and party the other day discovered a splendid nugget weighing about nine ounces. They arc about to wash up, and anticipate a handsome yield. — Our correspondent, writing from the Cardrona on the 28th ult. , remarks : — ' There is very little to report from this place for the last fortnight. Shares in established good claims still continue to reach fabulous extremes L4OO having been given in two instances for shares, and LSOO having been actually refused for another share. ' "
