The Panama Company's steamer Claud Hamilton arrived iv the roadstead from Hokitika on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning tie Persevere made an attempt tv tender her, but found it impossible to get over the bar, owing to the heavy break. The little tug and her forty or fifty passengers got a sound ducking, but managed to return to the river without accident The weathei outside was threatening, and the Claud dodged about under steam until towards evening, when she gave the land a good offing. She turned up again yesterday morning, and the Persevere ran out to her, and with some difficulty succeeded in transhipping her passr engera and gold. The Claud soon afterwards steamed off for Melbourne. The Claud Hamilton left Melbourne on the 20th March, and arrived at the Bluff on the 26th, She then went on as far as Port Chalmers, and sailed again for the West Coast, via the Bluff on the 29th.
