Melbourne, 24th March. Mr Fellows and Capt. M'Mahon have declined to attempt to form a Ministry. Mr J. C. Riddell ha 3 been sent for. The general opinion is that the Moderate party will rally tound him, and form a Coalition Ministry. It is rumored Mr Verdon and Mr Grant will join him. The Governor declines to promise a dissolution. Parliament met to-day at two o'clock, and adjourned for a week to allow Mr Riddell time to form a Ministry. He hopes to induce the Council to pass the Darling grant on a separate Bill. The Protestant Hall rioters have been acquitted on the capital charge, and again arrested on a charge of doing grievous bodily harm. Bail has been allowed. Tho Victorian Autumn Race Meeting took place on Saturday. St. Ledger Stakes: — Fireworks, 1; Kingfisher, 2. The Australian Cup : — Fireworks scratched ; Shenandoah, 1; Snip, 2. Angus M'Donald, of Hamilton, was killed through being thrown from his horse. The Prince's wound is healing fast. He visited the Galatea to-day. Reports are current that he will not visit New Zealand, but depart for Home by the Tone i Straits route. O'Farrell still asserts that instructions to kill the Prince came from Home. Mr B. C. Aspinall and Mr Dalley are retained for the assassin's defence. For the Alfred Memorial, the Sydney subscription list amounts to several thoiis, nis of pounds. A large meeting of ladies was held today, in the Exhibition building, Melbourne, to express sympathy with the Prince and condolence with the Queen. Several resolutions were passed. The speakers were clergymen.
