Lettern for sea borne mails will be forwarded if posted within forty minutes after the advertised time for closing the mails, such letters to bear a late fee of 6d. in addition to the postage, the whole to be affixed 11 postage stamps. POST OFFICE SAVINGS' BANKS. The New Zealand Gazette of March 2«lth publishes the following regulations fo,r the banks as above newly established at Christchurch, Lyttelton, Kaiapoi, Timaru, Akaroa, Hokitika, Greymouth, and Waimate :- 1. Interest at the rate of 5 per cent, per annum is giyen on sums less than L2OO ; at the rate of 4 per cent, per annum on sums over L 20 0; and in the, same proportion for anj' shorter time on every complete LI deposited, provided that no interest be allowed on more than LSCO. 2. Depositors in' the Post Office Savings' Banks have direct Government security for the prompt repayment of their money. 3. A depositor in any one of the Post Otiice Banks can continue his deposits at any other of such Banks, anil can withdraw his money at that Post Office Hank which is most convenient to him. 4. The strictest secrcc} 11 is observed with respect to the names of depositors in Post Office Banks, and the amounts of their deposits. 5. Married women may deposit money in the Post Office Savings' Bank, and money so deposited will be repaid to the depositor, unless her husband gives notice, in -writing, of' marriage, and claims payment of the deposits. G. Money may be deposited by or on behalf of minors. Depositors over seven years of age are treated as persons of full age, but minors under seven years of age cannot withdraw their deposits until they have reached the age of seven. 7. Applications to the Chief Office in each Province on the business of Post Office Savings' Banks, and the replies sent thereto, are free from .-barge <«• t>ostage.
