TRIAL OF FENIAN PRISONERS.
CONTINUED EXCITEMENT. ARMED CONSTABULARY COMING FROM WELLINGTON. NOMINATION FOR WESTLAND BOROUGHS. (prom oxtr own correspondent.) Hokitika, Wednesday, The trial of the Fenian prisoners was resumed to-day, and is likely to extend over two days. The first information was withdrawn in order to include the names of all the prisoners in one indictment. Messrs Rees and Guinness appeared for the prisoners. The greatest excitement prevailed in town when the prisoners were brought to the Court. No person was allowed to pass along the street, or enter the Courti without permission. The evidence given at the trial to-day was the same as on the last occasion 1 no new facts were elicited. It is reported that the St Kilda is. on her way down here with a detachment of seventy of the armed constabulary. The nomination for Westland Boroughs took place to-day at noon. There were only fifteen persons present. Mr Bright retired in favor of Mr Shaw. The show of hands was : Shaw, 8 ; Harrison, 4. A poll was demanded by Mr Harrison, which takes place to-morrow.
