The civil servants have not been paid, owing to a hitch in the banking arrange* ments. Great dissatisfaction arises from the stoppage of the public works. The Ministry possess the public confidence.
The brig Esperanza, of and for Melbourne, coal laden, was caught in the gale on Sunday near Bird Island. She dragged her anchors and was wrecked. The sea washed . the captain's wife and child overboard. The. captain, the passengers, and five of the crew were also drowned. One of the seamen, named Moss, reached the shore safely.
