DuNKDiN.— The Daily Times of the 2nd inst. , reports as follows : — The amount of business done through the past week has heen exceedingly light, and iv particular, import houses have had to complain of a want of trade. English cheese will only sell at prices entailing a considerable loss to importers, and the full supply of Colonial has reduced the value to Sd to 84d." As might be expected, from second houses being generally stocked with teas, town transactions have been light, and only to sort up ; there is, however, a better demand for coastwise requirement?, and bonded stocks exhibit fairly reduced figures. Brandies continue firm at 8s for Hennessy's and Martell's, and small Jots of case have been placed at 32s to 32s Gd. Whiskies and genevas are without alteration. Kerosene is dull. Hemp goods are of inquiry. Blasting powder has been placed in considerable quantity, at rather easier rates. Malt liquors huve, with little exception, been dull ; tho tirst shipment of the season of new brew (M'Eweu's) is reported as placed — price withheld. . Alea are not in inquiry ; but stouts command better sale. Melbourne. — By the Gothenburg we have Melbourne -papers to the 24th ult. In its report for Saturday, the 22nd, published on the 24tb, the Argus says : — The mai kets to day have not been characterised by much animation, nor has anything of special importance transpired in business to supplement what has already been inadp public during the week. In breadstuff's, Hour has met with more active inquiry, aud sales of Victorian flour have been made at tbe slight advance noted yesterday, a few parcels having been quitted at Ll6 to Ll6 10s, acpording to brand, Wheat is also very firm, and readily saleable at 7s. In feeding grains, maize alone meets with much notice ; a brisk trade demand is beginning to spring up at 4s. Cornsacks have been wanted, though the price offered has not led to sales. There are still buyers of geneva amongst the trade. We hear of a few hundred cases of JDKZ having changed hands at 44s 6d — our quotations of this morning. Caustic soda has advanced to L3O to L 32 j at tbe former figure there are now buyers willing to operate,
