GREYMOUTH DISTRICT ROAD BOARD
The nomination of members to serve on the Greymouth District Road Board took place yesterday, immediately after the nomination for the County Council. The following gentlemen were proposed and seconded. Messrs Martin Kennedy, William Leach (Saltwater), J. Kilgour, James Hamilton (Ruthergleh), E. B. Fox (Maori Gully), Edmund Wickes, W. J. Coates, Edwin Ashton, F. Hamilton, John Heron, D. Sheedy, J. A. Whall, W. F. Strike, G. Simmons, Hugh Barnhill (Saltwater), John Harris, G. Porrotti, and R. P. Bain. The show of hands resulted as follows : — Kennedy, 27 ; Leach, 11 ; Kilgour, 32 ; Hamilton (Rutherglen), 18 ; Fox, 21 ; Wickes, 25 ; Coates, 10 ; Ashton, 22 ; F. Hamilton, 26 ; Heron, 23; D. Sheedy, 20 ; J. A. Whall, 28 ; Strike, 24; Simmons, 18; Barnliill, 12 ; Harris, 14 , Perotti, 30 ; Davies, 32 ; Bain, 17. , The Returning Officer declared the show of hands to be in favor of the following gentlemen : — Messrs Kilgbur, Davies, Perotti, Whall, and Kennedy. Mr John Harris demanded a poll, which was fixed to take place on Friday next, at the following places : — The Warden's Court, Greymouth ; the Police Camp, Rutherglen ; Card's Store, Left-hand Branch, New River ; and E. B. Fox's store, Maori Gully. A vote of thanks to the Returning Officer terminated the proceedings. [We are authorised terstate that Messrs R. P. Bain and James Hamilton have retired from 'the field.]
