THE BULLER DISTRICT.
The Westport " Ledger" gives the following summary of the mining intelligence :— There is -iio uew,s of any importance to report fr.om the Mokihinui. Rumors of discoveries up the. river are prevalent, but up to our going to press no definite news has arrived-. It is confidently believed by experienced miners that the lead of gold which has been worked for some time on the ten-aces near to the beach extends north to the side of the river, and close to the Mokihinui township. A good track is much wanted* to be cut up to the gully which intersects the lagoon, and the high -bluff- strata above the basaltic rock". It is believed that large deposits of gold will be foimd near the break in the range which forms a kind of swamp, but this could not be worked except by a large company of men, with pumps, &c, and would require a great deal of money before starting. It is folly for miners fco come here without means, as it is aot a poor man's diggings ; the only jhance for them is tip the river, and jveri at present none of the prospectors ire paying men, but are working themselves. Prospects, in spite of the bad veather, are looking uj||||t|^iSison's, md the fact that the nu||j|l|hokl oil to fco place speaks yolu^Hmp thj| per Viency of the district. the jllis are getting well defiued, and these I v\live on either know that they will Jwell, whereas those who are between sides may have bottomed on ~ l^'tom oS P ects > an( * P^ ent y °f wash in ' U(^ av^ 3un k on small ;• m^Wsand.j these are the men who l j^gf\give the place 1 a bad name, clanl? yH? -.*^ ei "6 is not a vacant ' all arel\f^^ ie eacls » and n()W ' prosp"%\^ orl^ A S real deal of hood ivY oin S on neighborsucceS s^e:\reen, but' with what to St JohfeVfl^ 01 *" 16^ The rush and it- isWV^ 6 is turning out welj rush in thisß, M tMs > last new richer thanfu^ 00(J > Tnli turn out Charleston tlX^TOhe others.
