CmusTCUCBLH.— The Press of the 28th ult. reports :— There has been no change in imports, the ■markets still continuing dull, and showing but slight prospects of amelioration. Inquiries for staple articles are confined to immediate requirements, and actual values in the absence ofsalesof parcels are but indifferently defined. No doubt but when the wool begins to arrive from the sheep stations a good deal of our present heavy stocks will be quitted ; it is, however, to the agricultural community we have to look for getting rid of the greatest amouut of our imports, and we are glad to see a prospect of a permanent market opening up for our surplus grain hi England. TLe returns of considerable shipments by the Matoaka being uovr to n.uui, and satisfactory so far that with ordinary care grain cau be shipped at a minimum price per bushel considerably in advance of present rates. No advauce has taken place in wheat during th« week, but large sales have been made at last week's rates, viz., 3s per bushel, principally for shipmeut to northern ports. We look for a slight advance shortly, as the Australian markets are looking up. In oats there are no saL. s beyond small lots for town requirements at 2n. Barley is in ratuer better demand for malting ; we quote 3s 9d as the average rate. Peas and beans are without inquiry. Hay remains at our last quotation. Otago.— The Daily Times of October 25 reports : — A better amount of town trade has bet n doing duriug the last few days, but the probability of briskness in other departments of trade lias been checked by the unfavorable Aveather. Transactions iv the import market {uive furnishecl notJiing of iudividuul importance, anil some operations have been held over for the receipt of the Pauama mails. Values of staples have been maintained, and the market has a disposition to . st .acif ness.
