THE WESLEYAN CHURCH BUILDING FUND.

(To the Editor of the Grey River Argus.) SiE.-7-Greymbuth is possessed of a building called the Religious Institute,' and was to be so called until the religionsportion of this town should . have raised sacred buildings pf their own. lam glad to see the English Church so successfully carried out, I may say independent of the Institute building referred to. But the religious body called Wesleyans are indebted to the subscribers to the Institute for having such a suitable place in which they can worship. It is not because they aro indebted that I would speak, but of the recent steps the Wesleyan Building Committee have taken with regard to the appropriation of their so-called building fund. They saw the great success that attended the. labors of the English Church, which created in them the desire to follow in their steps. They appealed to the public, and with success, stating or given everyone" the idea that their offering would erect unto them a tabernacle in which they could comfortably worship. Thus over L2OO was gathered, and I appeal to everyone who gave according to his ability if it was not to erect a place of worship. Nothing could surpass my surprise when 1 noticed in your last issue an advertisement, emanating from this Building Committee, calling for tenders for the erection of a parsonage house. Sir, it is true they called the proceeds of the. gathering a building fund, but surely the Committee never used such a term that they might deceive those from whom they received subscriptions, by appropriating the offerings of the people for another purpose. It appears it is not a church that is wanted but a parsonage house, not the comfort of the flock but of the shepherd. I beg to inform the Wesleyan Building Committee that it is the intention of the subscribers to the Institute to create that building into a Mechanics' Institute, for which it was originally intended. I am, &c, A Subscriber. Greymouth, Oct. 28, 1867.
