POST OFFICE SAVINGS' BANKS.

The New Zealand Gazette of March 25th publishes the following regulations for the banks as above newly .established at Christchurch, Lyttelton, Kaiapoi, Tiniaru, Akaroa, Hokitika, Greymouth, and Waimate ;--■ 1. Interest at the rate of 0 per cent, per aimum is given on sums less than L2OO ; at the rate of 4 per cent, per annum on SUIII3 over LSOO j and in tht same proportion for any shorter time on every complete LI de r posited, provided that no interest be allowed on more than LSCO. 2. Depositors in the Post Office Savings' Banks have direct Government security For the prompt repayment qf their money. 3. A depositor in any one of the Post Office Banks can continue his deposits at any other of such Banks, and can withdraw his money at that Post Office B;mk whichis most convenient to him. 4. The strictest secrecy is observed with respect to the names of depositors in Post Office Banks, and the amounts of their deposits. 5. Married women may deposit money in the Post Office Savings' Bank, and money so deposited will be repaid to the depositor unless her husband gives notice, in writing, of marriage, and claims payment of the deposits. G. Money may be deposited by or on behalf of minors. Depositors over seven years of age are treated as persons of full age, but minors under seven years of age cannot withdraw their deposits until they have reached the age of_seven. 7. Applications to the Chief Office in each Province on the business of Post Office Savings' Banks, and the replies sent thereto, are freti from jharge <"• nostagc.
