Duxedin. — The Daily Tints, of the lt\ inst, reports as follows : — Although a brisk demand for spring supplies has not yet set in, either from our near or distant customers, aud operations of any magnitude in the import 'market have been rare, scarcely any goods witnessing particular inquiry, and the majority of staples finding buyers only in limited parcels ; still, a more steady trade has been done during the last fortnight, and general business is sensilly mending. Breadstuffs of late have not corny manded attention; and as a proof oljLf^ little this market now has need ojjJr^^X flours or grain, the last ktJii^ f7m P° r. ted proved prices in Melhm^*^gence of "*- --any alteration Ji^*^™^ ff^ d *° ccaus e quoted at IjJf?™e- in Adg^de flour is jyg^wneat,' 4s ; barley, 4s 6d ; oats, 2s Bd. plait liquors, spirits and wines may be classed as alike quiet,' np alterations of note transpiring in any of these articles. Holders■»■■£ ale in bulk are pnly able to quit by a few hogsheads at a time, and can scarcely make sales of bottled lo a greater extent. Thl«

valuo for new brew beers keeps about as last given, there being no sales of magnitude enough to alter prices. Hennessy 's and Martell'sbrandies are quoted at 6s lOd to 7s, and 273 to 27s 6d. Champagne Vineyard Proprietors and Otard's, are worth Gs 6d to 6a i)il. The inquiry for low-class sherries has snl>sidod ; nnd though a few packages of good and medium ports have been placed, very low descriptions are almost unsaleable. Some small shipments of new cure hams and bacon have been selling at good prices, but the lots immediately available being few, and buyers indisposed to take up parcels to arrive, transactions have not been of any great moment. Building materials are more active, and second houses doing an improved business. Moderate sized parcels of galvanised iron have been placed, by importers, at sustained rates, and though only one considerable sale of timber is reported, the prospects for some of the large lots, in first hands, are rather better. The transaction referred to, being the sale, in one line, of the cargo of 'Oregon pine, ex Parisian. The price realised was not allowed to transpire. Scotch flooring is held only by one honse, and as no heavy shipments are at present expected, higher prices for this item will have to be paid. The tea market has been moderately brisk, parcels of good sorts moving off at fully sustained rat js. Good congous in small packages are in request ; the stock of all kinds is light, andbarely sufficient for requirements uutil the new season's teas come to hand; Sugars have been dealt i a privately to some extent, : notwithstanding that the cargo of the Jessie Kelly was disposed of by auction, and the announcement of the sale of the Oberlin's cargo to take place, on the 12th. Second quality crystals have been most in demand ; and the prices paid for such sorts correspondingly high. Stocks are ample for present requirements ; but quotations fur the transactions low taking place are maintained. Cornsack? are worth 15s; sperm candles, 12d to 12£ d; kerosene, 3s to 3s 3d. Amongst the items which have been dealt in sparingly, and for which there is no appreciable alt( ration in values, are tobaccos, rice, salt, hops, blasting powder, oilmen's stores, &c.
