THE PARIS EXHIBITION.

A complete list has been published of the prizes awarded at the Paris Exhibition on July 1, in the presence of the Emperor of the French, the Sultan, the Prince of Wales, the Lord Mayors of London and Dublin, aud a most brilliant assembly. Ninety English firms have taken the highest prize — a gold medal. About 300 have been awarded silver medals ; up-, wards of 400 have obtained bronze medals ; and 300 others have merited honorable mention. In only one instance has there been an .ward of what, in Univirsity phrase we may call a double first, and it is highly creditable to English skill and good taste to find that the exhibitors are the firm of Johnson, Matthey, and Co.. the metallurgists, of Hatton Garden. The gold ancl silver platinum apparatus exhibited by them has been valued at about L 20,000. They have also been awarded a silver medal. The following are some of those English firms which have been awardedgold medals : — Clayton, Lincoln, thrashing machines ; Fowler, Cornhill, steam plough ; Garrett, Saxmudham, agricult ural machines ; Horn sby, Grantham, ditto • Howard, Bedford, steam plough ; Ransomes, Ipswich, agricultural machines ; Mereweather, Long- . acre, fire-engines ; Turton, Sheffield, files, &c. Speeches were made by the Emperor at the ceremony, and the Sultan also spoke in the Turkish language, expressive of his gratification at being present on an occasion of so much interest.
