CHUiSTCHtJRCH.— The Press, of the 26th inst, reports as follows : — Thft markets throughout the past week have exhibited very little activity, the small demand being principally confined to town sales of miscellaneous goods. Quotations are without change'; and are likely to continue so until our present heavy stocks are reduced, and trade assumes a higher tone than is the case at present. The intelligence received by the late Suez mail has been favorable to importers, but the continued dulness of our markets naturally deters our wholesale merchants frpm taking advantage of the easy state of the home market, and we may look for light shipments to continue to be made for souje time to come yet. The continued fajlur.es of retail traders tend to keep up an uneasy feelpg in mercantile circle3,^and credjt is naturally very restricted. Accounts, when due; "aj-e not paid with that promptitude which duiotes a sound state of trade, and the fourth of the mouth is looked forward to with mxich anxiety. - In our produce market, wheat, for shipment, is in good request at 3s 6d per bushel. Superior samples have been quitted at 45." The bulk of our whpat 13 now'" in the hands of substantial farmers, who are rather inclined to hold for higher, rates than buyers are inclined as yet to give. For oats the demand is almost nominal. Wq quote fair feed oats at 2s. 3d, and best seed' 2s 9d to 3s. Beans and peas are quitted in small lots at 4s per bushel ; other farm produce unchanged in prices. The low rates ruling during the last two years for farm produce has had the effect of deterring many of our farmers from sowing cereal and piilse crops this season to any large extent. By their following this coxirse it is to be hoped* we will not be obliged to have recourse to importation to Bupply the deficiency- that may arise.
