RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, GREYMOUTH.

Revell, Esq. , R M. ) Tcesday, Aug. 20. * Lakokny.— PeterGuy, a "professional", was charged on tho information of Margaret Smith with having broken into her house and stolen therefrom two pairs of blankets. The prisoner stated that the blankets in question were his property which he had lent to the prosecutor. It appeared that early in the morning the accustd had called at the house of the woman Smith, in Johnstone street, where she exercised the calling of "getting a living the best way she could," according to her own description — and being denied admittance he smashed the -window in and effected an entrance, first inflicting corporal punishment on the lady of the house, and then taking away the blankets. • The Bench accepted the prisoner's version of the story, and dismissed the case. Assault. — A second clijxrge, of assault, was preferred by Margaret Smith against Peter Guy, committed on tho occasion referred to above, which being fully proved, the prisoner was ordered to pay a tine of LI and costs. Wilful Destruction of Property. — The same prisoner was charged with breaking the windows of the dwelling of Margaret Smith, and ordered to pay the cost of repairing the same, in addition to a fine of 20s. .
