Lmpjjiuat, Spout-. — Tlie Soleil publishes the following anecdote concerning the Emperor of Austria : — " While out shoot- j ing, his Majesty is always attended by a j captain of tho Guards, whose duty it is to ! observe the ■ effect of each shot, and announce it. The Emperor, for instance, strikes a partridge. ' Partridge,' cries the I captain. Next time it is a buck. ' Buck,' j shouts the captain. One day the Emperor fired, missed tho game, and wounded one of the gentleman of his suite. The latter on being struck uttered an exclamatiou. 'His Highness the Duke of Hackcnburg ! ' announced the captain, without the slightest change of feature or tone." liion Claws at Sea. — During the last trip of the Channel squadron, several attempts were made to work their guns, four aud a half and seven tons, in moderate weather. On board one of our largest iron-clads, the guns, when loaded and cast loose, ran out with such violence, owing to the rolling of the ship (our ironclads are great rollers), that the carriages brought up against the ship's side with a force sufficient to start tlie rifled shot •within them into the sea outside. It was then attempted to fire the guns on the rise, but the shot went heaven-ward, heaven, knows whither, ancl one gun was carried off its side by the recoil and inclination of the deck. Monitors do not roll like the iron-clads, which last think nothing of IS degrees. The Miantonomoh, when crossing the Atlantic, only rolled four degrees.
