RESIDENT'S MAGISTRATE'S COURT, GREYMOUTH.

A Assault. — George Somner was charged by Joseph Jackson with having committed a violent assault upon the plaintiff on Saturday last. It appeared that the assault arose out of a betting account between the parties. The defendant, who had won 1/2 from the plain- ! tiff at the . The defendant denied the assault, but the Magistrate found the assault proved, and inflicted a fine of a guinea and costs. On a second charge of assaulting and resisting the police in the execution of their duty, tlie prisoner was committed to gaol for 14 days ■with hard labor. B.reacu.os Dog Okmvaxck— P.
