The Wangtmiii Chronicle, in au extra published on^lhe 7th inst, says : — We learn from a private source, that the loss sustained by the Maoris, in the late skirmish at Tauranga, was ten 'killed, of whom three men were chiefs. They have also, we learn from the same source,' taken four of' our men prisoner.". It is' satisfactory, however, to learn that tho natives have declared that they do. not intend massacring these men, : bufc intend keeping them as prisoners of war, in the same way that we have done with the captured rebels . They intend, they, say, to put them to work, but not to ill use them.
