(From the Christchurch papers.) . Dunedin, Feb. 28. The official declaration of the poll for the Superintendency was made yesterday as follows :— Macandrew, 2260 ; Dick, 1392 ; Grant, 2; ■ Mr Macandrew assumed office to-day. The Daily Times states that a discovery has been made which promises to restore to the Otago municipal bodies the fees and fines which they were supposed to be deprived of by the act passed last session. It appears that this act was informally worded. It is likely that the corporations will lose little time in applying for a refund of the moneys which, but for the supposed repeal of the former act, would have come to Wem; - Wellington, March 2. l )an .* c nas beou caused among the jp r ~ natives at the Ohathams by reports that the Government intended to extirpate them.
