The fifteen Chinese who came overland from Hokitika have been arrested at Oamaru, on the charge of murder at Porter's Pass, They were brought before -the Magistrate and remanded to Christciiurcli. 'Wellington, Saturday. The steamer Star of the Evening, with " a cargo of sheep from Napier to Auckland, struck on a reef near Poverty Bay, and foundered. : Three passengers and tliree of the crew were drowned, Five sailors remained on the reef fov fifty-two hours before assistance arrived. The Customs revenue for the past year exceeds that, of the previous one by £114,000, principally owing ta the Coast.
