The Grey River Argus. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1867.

.We have to remind our readers that the period during which personsqualified Jo vote at the election of members of the House of Representatives expires on the 31sfc of March engxiing. The iniportapce of every qualified person availing himself of the right to exercise the^franehise, is we trust too generally, recognised to need auy arguments from, us, But as people are frequently dila. tiny in the matter of Registration unless urgently reminded, we wish to draw the attention of our readers to the necessity of their enrolling their names without delay, Although the Electoral Rolls now to be compiled are formed under a new Act, " The Registration of Eleotors Act, I860," it is not necessary that those wliose names are on the last roll should re-register. ..' The ouly matter to which it is necessary to draw the" attention of persons already on the roll is in the case of change of abode by those who arc registered for household qualification. They must send in afresh notice of clainj, or elsetheiiMianies.'. are liable to be objected to when the roll oomes to be revised, The qualification of voters consists of household, freehold, or leasehold, of the aunual value of £10, of which the owner or occupier shall have" been in 'possession on the 30 th day of April next preceding. There is a slight alteration in the form of attesting claims to vote, -must ; now be witnessed either by an elector of tlie district, a Registration Officer, or; Justice of the Peace. 'The word elector we presume to mean any pereon already .on the electoral roll. We may as well state that those who last year claimed i to vote by virtue of a business license, were disqualified, and if they have since cjme into possession of household, freehold, or leasehold. -"occupation; they can register accordindy. The revision of the roll must be corn, pleted before the 15th, July, and those persons duly eurolled may vote at any election which shall take place between the last day of August aud the Ist September in the next succeeding year. A very respectable ,. number of names was eurolled in G-reymoiith last year, and we trust that this year the roll will be largely added to, and Greymouth 1 secure a leading influence in future elections.
