If there be only one applicant for any i piece of land such applicant will be deemed ' to be the purchaser. All land not applied for before the 12th March will be open for selection on any day subsequent to the 12th March. The. first applicant will in such case be deemed the purchaser. Any number of acres may be applied for not less than 40 If two* or more persons at any time apply for the same laud at the same time, it will be put up to auctiou at the iixed price for selection.
