(Before W.H.Ptevell, Esq.,-RM.) "Assault. U— James Murphy, a miner, was charged with having been guilty of a brutal.assault upon J- H.Kuhlman, the proprietor of the Arney street bridge. Ifrap* peared that, the prisoner had attempted to pass across the bridge without paying toU, but was for a time prevented by the prosecn. tor, who, however, ultimately allowed the prisoner to pass over. The prisoner had proceeded only a few yards when lie returned and struck the prosecutor several times over the head with sonic tools tied up in a hand, kerchief, and its is probable that but for the timely assistance rendered by Wo men who' happened to come up, Mr KuJUinau's life would have been in danger. The police-were sent for, and the prisoner after a vigorous resistance was taken to the loekrup, The ott'ence-was proved, and the prisoner was fiiied £o, and a further fine of £5 for assaulttho police. : Attempted. Suioide. — Thomas Uolinanj charged with attempting -to. commit suicide, was further remanded until Tncsday. > Lahckny. —Barney Williams, on a charge of larceny, was convicted, and sentenced to two mouths'imprisoniuent.
